So, I've been asked to find a patch management solution for our company. I guess I'll start with a description of our environment and since a drawing is worth a thousand words:
We have to manage hundreds of sites, globally. Also, we aren't an MSP or VAR, but those business models describe our organization pretty closely. Our client PCs range from Windows XP (yeah, I hear you) to Windows Server 2012, but most are Windows Server 2003 orWindows Server 2008 R2. We're not concerned about application updates at this time, but that would be a nice plus.
We looked into using WSUS, but the solution won't work because WSUS requires port 80. I'm guessing an agent based solution would probably work best here as long as the port can be configured to work over 443. One other requirement, the solution must be able to push updates to the clients instead...
