A lot of our users have used AIM 8 for a while (and older versions of AOL Instant Messenger). I'm happy to say that I finally got the go-ahead to remove and block all messengers other than my newly implemented OpenFire/Spark system. Unfortunately, I have a ton of computers with AIM installed and need to uninstall all of the instances remotely. It looks like AIM is a per-user install so I need to figure out how to silently uninstall for each user logging on to a system. As a test I installed AIM to my desktop and noticed it installed here:C:\Users\cweaver\AppData\Local\AOL\AIM. That is where the uninstall.exe resides. I'm all for any method of getting AIM off these machines (logon/logoff scripts, GPO, etc).
We are doing a few things to prevent further installs of such software such as removing local admins and so on.
