I need a bit of advice on knowing user passwords for system updates where server restarts are required and restarting the user's system is required.
Here's the situation. When I perform server updates and have to restart the server or also install software or updates that require the user's workstation to be restarted, I only am able to do so by logging in as that user. Several of my users often leave unsaved files open even when I have notified them of server updates and the need to restart their systems. I perform these updates after hours to not disrupt their day.
While it is definitely a non-standard practice to know your user's passwords, I know of no other way to be able to maintain their data integrity and still be able to perform my task after hours. It would be extremely unfortunate if someone had spent...
